Mohamed Salah Faces His Worst Crisis at Liverpool: Tension, Criticism and a Legacy at Risk
A club in crisis, a fractured relationship, and a legend who won’t hold back. Mo Salah faces the most fragile moment of his Liverpool era.
A superstar at the breaking point
The situation surrounding Mohamed Salah at Liverpool has taken a dramatic turn. Not long ago, Anfield was celebrating a dominant Premier League title and the renewal of icons like Salah, Van Dijk, and Alexander-Arnold.
Today, the club is drowning in a deep sporting crisis, and the Egyptian forward is publicly at odds with Arne Slot.
Salah himself acknowledged the rupture after the match at Elland Road:
“Suddenly we have no relationship. It feels like the club has thrown me under the bus and wants all the blame on me.”
A declaration that shocked a dressing room already emotionally shaken.
A season overshadowed by turmoil
Liverpool’s summer was devastating: the departure of Luis Díaz, only appreciated once he was gone; the tragic death of Diogo Jota in a car accident; and expensive signings that haven’t delivered.
The result? A team sitting ninth in the table with 23 out of 45 possible points, far from last season’s dominance. And the star who was expected to steady the ship is now living the toughest stretch of his Anfield career.
Wayne Rooney slams Salah without mercy
English football legend Wayne Rooney did not hold back when speaking about Salah.
“Slot needs to show authority. Tell him he’s not traveling, that what he said is unacceptable. I wouldn’t play him,” Rooney stated.
He went even further: “He is destroying his legacy. It’s sad to see him throw everything away.”
Rooney criticized the impact of Salah’s words as well: “His comment was arrogant, especially at a moment when Liverpool needs him the most. If I were his teammate, I’d be furious.”
The former United star added that Salah was “disrespectful to his teammates, his coach and the fans,” and predicted: “He will regret this.”
A legacy on the edge
Despite an extraordinary record —250 goals in 420 appearances— the perception is that Salah’s influence has waned. Rooney summed it up bluntly:
“Time catches up with all of us. He’s not at his best this year. You have to prove it every week.”
In this heated atmosphere, there are even rumors that Salah may not be included in the Champions League squad for Tuesday’s match against Inter Milan, just days before departing for the AFCON with Egypt.
Point of no return?
Between poor results, public criticism and explosive statements, Salah’s short-term future at Liverpool has become a real question. What’s at stake now isn’t just a Champions League spot… but his historical legacy at Anfield itself.
