Tottenham Investigating Player After Video Shows Him Using Banned Substance
Tottenham Hotspur has opened an internal investigation after a video surfaced showing Yves Bissouma inhaling nitrous oxide, reigniting disciplinary concerns around the midfielder.
The Tottenham Hotspur organization has launched an internal probe after a video went viral showing midfielder Yves Bissouma inhaling nitrous oxide—commonly known as “laughing gas.” The footage, published by British tabloid The Sun, has raised serious concerns within the club, particularly because recreational possession and use of this substance is illegal in the United Kingdom and can carry penalties of up to two years in prison.
The 29-year-old midfielder, who has yet to appear this season under manager Thomas Frank, finds himself back in the spotlight for the wrong reasons. In 2024, Bissouma was also caught consuming the substance, a violation that earned him a one-match suspension from the Spurs.
A Pattern of Repeated Offenses
This latest controversy adds to a growing list of disciplinary issues surrounding Bissouma. Beyond the recurring incidents involving prohibited substances, the Mali international was left out of the squad in August for the UEFA Super Cup clash against Paris Saint-Germain due to repeated lateness and absences from training sessions.
These setbacks have damaged his standing within the team and worsened an already complicated sporting situation. Since Thomas Frank took charge, Bissouma has not played a single minute this season, raising further doubts about his long-term future in London.
In a statement to the BBC, Tottenham addressed the situation briefly: “We are reviewing this and will deal with it internally.” The club has offered no additional details, but disciplinary action is expected as they evaluate the context and seriousness of the incident.
A Signing That Never Took Off
Bissouma joined Tottenham in 2022 after an impressive spell with Brighton & Hove Albion, a move that cost the Spurs around £30 million. However, he has struggled to find consistency, with his time in North London marked by suspensions, injuries, and off-field issues that have hindered his development.
With his image damaged, no appearances this season, and an ongoing internal investigation, the midfielder is facing one of the most challenging moments of his career. While the club remains silent publicly, internal reports suggest that this latest incident—especially as a repeat offense—may result in harsher consequences or even an early exit.
