Gerrard: Salah must 'reverse away' from Liverpool comments
Mohamed Salah revealed his feelings after Liverpool’s draw with Leeds United, but Steven Gerrard believes it was done in the wrong way.
Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard believes Mohamed Salah must "reverse away" from his recent comments about the club.
After Salah was an unused substitute during Liverpool's 3-3 draw with Leeds United, he said that he felt that he had been "thrown under the bus" by the club.
The Egyptian also added that he had no relationship with Arne Slot, and the Liverpool boss responded by leaving Salah out of the squad for their Champions League fixture against Inter, which they won courtesy of a Dominik Szoboszlai penalty in the 88th minute.
Slot refused to rule out a return for the winger, though Salah will join the Egypt national team for the Africa Cup of Nations after the Reds' Premier League game against Brighton this weekend.
Reports have also emerged that teams from the Saudi Pro League are interested in signing Salah if he seeks a move away from Merseyside in January.
Gerrard has urged Salah to right his wrongs, likening it to Luis Suarez's fallout with former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers in 2013.
"I've seen this and I've lived it with Suarez when he fell out with Brendan face to face. I've been there and done it myself," Gerrard told TNT Sports.
"He's [Salah] obviously really upset he's not playing, which I respect.
"A couple of lines about throwing people under the bus – wrong. [You] need to reverse a little bit away from that, to deal with that with the manager.
"This needs Virgil van Dijk to go, 'How are we sorting this out for the benefit of not the club, or the team, but the fans?'
"We've all had head losses as players. We’ve all done emotional things. And I know in time when this all calms Mo will go, 'I shouldn't have said that, I maybe shouldn't have said that, I was a bit emotional, I was a bit hasty.'
"But at the end of the day, Liverpool football club needs Mo Salah, back playing well, back scoring goals, because he is the best player, the best scorer and he will help them get out of this. If this goes on this is bigger than what we all know and what we see."
