Kane and Kompany laud substitutes' impact in comprehensive win over Stuttgart
Harry Kane came off the bench to net a second-half hat-trick as Bayern Munich stormed to a dominant win away to Stuttgart.
Harry Kane and Vincent Kompany praised Bayern Munich’s impact off the bench as they ran riot over Stuttgart in a goal-laden second-half display on Saturday.
Konrad Laimer opened the scoring in the 11th minute, but Bayern struggled to extend their dominance in the first half as Nikolas Nartey saw a goal ruled out for offside following a VAR review.
Kompany opted for a host of changes on the hour mark, including bringing on Kane, who went on to score a stellar hat-trick in the final 30 minutes.
Kane doubled Bayern's lead with a driven effort in the 66th minute before fellow substitute Josip Stanisic struck from range in the 78th minute to put them in control.
The England captain then added gloss to the scoreline with two goals inside the final 10 minutes, extending Bayern's cushion at the top of the table to eight points.
"We've had a lot of games in a short space of time and a really tough midweek match," Kane said after the match.
"We weathered it well, and we took on one of the best teams [in Stuttgart]. They often play man-to-man; they really put you under pressure, but we were able to cope with it, and I think we looked like the stronger team in the final half-hour and punished them.
"The boys did a great job in the first 60 minutes, so we subs could exploit the space. And, of course, it's nice for me personally to score a few goals.
"I try to keep up the energy, and that's exactly what the coach said before the game as well."
With his hat-trick, Kane took his Bundesliga tally up to 17 for the season. He has now scored 58 goals for club and country in 2025, marking his best-ever return in a calendar year, beating his 56 goals from 2017.
Head coach Kompany echoed his star striker's statements, believing that Bayern's impact off the bench helped produce a stronger second-half showing.
"We didn't get off to a bad start, and Konrad Laimer scored thanks to our deep runs," Kompany said.
"Stuttgart always pressed high and stuck to their game, which is why it was so intense. Stuttgart got a grip in the first half, we lost our momentum a little.
"We focused more on vertical play in the second half. The substitutions and our physicality helped us turn in a much stronger display in the second half."
