PSG Regain Control of Ligue 1 as Kvaratskhelia Shines in 5–0 Rout of Rennes
PSG returned to winning form in Ligue 1 with a commanding 5–0 victory over Rennes, powered by a brilliant brace from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who delivered his most dominant performance since arriving in Paris.
The Georgian star stole the spotlight at the Parc des Princes, scoring once in each half — first with an electrifying slalom run capped by a precise strike, and later with a laser from the penalty arc — setting the tone for a night in which PSG never looked threatened.
Kvaratskhelia Leads a Much-Needed Bounce-Back Win
Coming off a disappointing 1–0 defeat to Monaco last matchday, Luis Enrique’s side desperately needed three points to stay within reach of league-leading Lens, who had earlier defeated Nantes 2–1. Falling four points behind was not an option.
Despite numerous injuries — Désiré Doué, Achraf Hakimi, Nuno Mendes, Lucas Beraldo, Lucas Chevalier and Illia Zabarnyi — PSG displayed complete control. The only scare came near the half-hour mark when Esteban Lepaul hit the post. Moments later, Lucas Hernández launched the counterattack that led to the opener.
Kvaratskhelia took the ball at breathtaking speed, burst along the edge of the box, danced past multiple defenders and unleashed an unstoppable rocket to break the deadlock.
Before halftime, Senny Mayulu doubled the advantage, finishing a perfect cut-back from Joao Neves, effectively sealing the match before the break.
Rennes Collapse as PSG Turn On the Power
Any hopes of a comeback vanished early in the second half. Kvaratskhelia struck again, this time with a fierce drive from the top of the box, followed by the dismissal of Jérémy Jacquet, whose second yellow card left Rennes with 10 men and no way back.
With the game decided, Luis Enrique introduced fresh legs. Ousmane Dembélé continued building rhythm after injury, while Ibrahim Mbaye and Gonçalo Ramos both joined the scoring party with long-range efforts in the closing minutes.
The victory keeps PSG just one point behind leaders Lens, restoring confidence and reaffirming that the reigning champions can still dictate the pace of the title race when their attack is firing.
